Single and looking to settle in the UAE? Well, finding a job does not end your worries. The next bet is to find an affordable living space. As with any other people in search of a home away from home, there are many factors you need to consider when picking a place to live, top of which are affordability and proximity to your workplace.
In Dubai, places like Deira, Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Al Qusais and International City are ideal for singles. Average yearly rents for studio apartments in these areas start somewhere between Dh35,000 and Dh50,000. Although some of these places are far from the city center, they can be easily accessed by cabs, buses and even the Metro.
Discovery Gardens and Jumeirah Village can also be considered viable options. However, these are slightly pricey locations, and average studio rents can start from around Dh50,000 to Dh60,000 annually.
On the outskirts of Dubai, Al Nahda is another affordable area. Its proximity to Sharjah makes it easier for those working in Sharjah to commute to their offices.
Al Rolla and Al Wahda in Sharjah are considered good options for singles because they are dotted with a wide range of budget-friendly housing options.
If you are working in Abu Dhabi, areas like Mussafah, Electra, Khalidiya and Najda are ideal residential addresses for single people. However, with the removal of the rent cap, rents have been on the rise not only in these areas but also in other popular areas.
Before signing the rental agreement, make sure that you have done your homework. Clarify with your landlord all the nuances related to renting. Although in most cases you do not have to pay the entire year’s rent outright, you may need to pay for the first two or three months. Charges for electricity, water and Internet connection have to be paid separately. Also ask your landlord who will shoulder the repair and maintenance charges in case of plumbing and air-conditioning problems.
