The brainchild of architects Ivar Krasinki and Martin Baerschmidt, Edge Design is a newly rebranded design consultancy specializing in master planning and architecture. The company has a list of exciting projects in the pipeline, including the 1JBR and Edition Hotel in Dubai, and promises to refresh the regional architectural landscape. Its team of 35 talented, dynamic and young designers will pleasantly surprise you with their positive outlook and energy as they get involved in every project from the preconceptual phase until delivery.
Talking about 1JBR, Krasinki explains, ''This is a unique product and serves a niche above what is available in the market. It offers great views of the Palm Jumeirah and the Bluewaters islands. These two mega-projects are a prime example of two big projects feeding the secondary project market.''
Expected to be completed by 2019, the 45-floor residential tower features one- to four-bedroom units with 100 per cent sea views. The podium includes a pool, gym, spa and dining in addition to a beach club with its own facilities for visitors. Each of the spacious units enjoy private sky gardens with excellent views of the beach and nearby landmarks while maintaining complete privacy.
Both Krasinki and Baerschmidt have ensured that the architecture is simple and no space is wasted so that the rooms are much larger than other luxury apartments in the market. The architects strongly believe that while there might be an oversupply in the mid-range apartments, there are a lot of opportunities in both the high-end and affordable housing segment, which have not yet been tapped.
''There is not much competition in the luxury sector. People are still talking about La Reve and Index Tower, which were built some years ago. So if you are in the market for a luxury apartment there is not much choice. JBR has a great beach, the night view is amazing and the new projects create value for the land,'' says Baerschmidt.
According to the duo, who are also working on the King Abdullah Economic City Coastal Towers in Saudi Arabia, there are still many more mega projects to be announced in Dubai. ''Think about the Dubai Canal — all these mega projects create opportunities for the construction industry and that is the logical way forward,'' Krasinki points out.
Talking about the Edition hotel in JBR, which will open in 2018, Krasinki explains that this is the second Edition hotel in the UAE, with the first one set to open later this year in Abu Dhabi.
The 258-room hotel will occupy a strategic beach front location in JBR, providing easy access to leisure, retail and entertainment and dining outlets. The hotel with its individuality, originality and unique ethos reflects the best of the cultural and social milieu of its location and of the time. Although the two hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi look completely different from each other, the brand's unifying aesthetic is in its approach and attitude to modern lifestyle.
''Edition is about an attitude and the way it makes you feel rather than the way it looks. The Edition brand is a highly sought after boutique brand. The designing has to be in line with the branding and in the end you get a product that definitely stands out and is different from what is on offer in Dubai. It appeals to a certain demographic, upwardly mobile, young travelers, who travel a lot and who don't necessarily want to stay in a five-star hotel,'' says Krasinki.
