Mention Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and several images come to mind: Ferrari World, Formula 1, concerts by international artists, Yas Waterworld, world-class hotels, Yas Mall and a host of other attractions. Not surprising considering that the area has become a crowd magnet since its inception, topping every visitor and tourist's must-visit, and every investor's next-place-to-watch-out-for lists.
Occupying a massive space, with a huge chunk of the area still bare and very much open to various developments big and small, the island holds promise of being the next sought-after residential address in the capital. This, after the popularity of its neighbour Saadiyat Island, Al Raha Beach and Reem Island, which offer distinct lifestyle experiences for the most discerning of homeowners.
Yas Island is currently witnessing a wave of activity in the residential scene. Different master-planned communities that will be peppered with the latest and modern conveniences are in the pipeline. Some of these projects were revealed at the recently concluded Cityscape Abu Dhabi.
The Ansam project will sit a few minutes away from the Yas Links Golf Course. It will comprise over 500 apartment units spread in a layout of winding walkways and a landscape of verdant greens with stunning views of the golf course.
Mayan, meanwhile, is a beachfront community that will consist of apartments, villas, townhouses and penthouses – more than 700 of them – divided in seven buildings and equipped with modern facilities and amenities such as swimming pools, gyms, children's play areas and a mosque.
There is also West Yas, another waterfront residential destination that will be filled with villas designed and exclusively for purchase by UAE nationals. It will be dotted with several conveniences, giving residents various lifestyle options at their doorstep.
With the different housing projects being planned on Yas Island, expect it to be the next big thing in Abu Dhabi in terms of residential options, making it not only a leisure and lifestyle destination, but also a residential haven for Emiratis and expats alike.
