The Dubai Creek, which has been the nerve center of the emirate's trade and commerce for centuries, is set for a makeover. Several new residential, commercial and retail projects are now being planned along its banks.
The Dubai Creek Harbour development, featuring residential units and hotels, is coming up near Ras Al Khor. Consisting of the world's highest twin towers, the project is spread over 1,482 acres of land. Around 39,000 residential units and 22 hotels with 6,000 rooms will come into the market following its launch. The first phase of the project, the Dubai Creek Residences, has clusters of six towers, two of which are already put up for sale. It will offer one to three-bedroom apartments. It will also include three luxury hotels.
Construction of the Jewel of the Creek, a 123,955-square-meter mixed-use development featuring five towers between Al Maktoum Bridge, Baniyas Road and the Floating Bridge, has already commenced. The project, expected to be finished in 2017, will have residential units, a four-star hotel, shops and office blocks.
The Dubai Culture Village, located between Garhoud Bridge and Business Bay Crossing, is also expected to be a bustling community along the creek. The Arabic-themed project will be home to several residential developments such as Manazel AlKhor featuring 76 apartment units, Dubai Wharf with more than 500 apartments, D1 Tower offering apartments and penthouses, and Palazzo Versace with condominium units and hotel suites. The entire project will be linked by 3.8 kilometers of promenade walkways, landscaped features, a themed souk and a mixed-use complex overlooking the creek.
Aladdin City is yet another mixed-use development planned to be built within the traditional vessel port in the Rigga part of the creek. Consisting of commercial offices and hotels, its architecture is inspired by the tales of Sindbad and Aladdin. The project's three towers will have a total area of 120,000 square meters, with the highest tower having 34 floors.
