Population growth drives school development

Dubai’s population is expected to reach 3.48 million by 2020. Consequently, from 2013 to 2020, the student population is expected to rise by more than 100,000 to around 360,000, creating a need for more education facilities, says a report by Colliers International.

Speaking at the Building Future Learning Spaces conference in Dubai, Dr Farooq Wasil, CEO of Goldline Education, said new facilities will have to incorporate “open, flexible floor plans, modular furniture and mobile learning tools such as electronic chalkboards, portable computers, expandable networking, and interactive video”.

Dr Cindy Gunn, Professor and Director, Faculty Development Centre at the American University of Sharjah, said, “The future of learning is moving towards facilitated independent learning.”
