The Dubai Marina area, particularly Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), is expected to triple its visitor numbers once the Bluewaters Island project located off its shores gets completed. The area is currently thronged with residents and tourists for its dual hangouts, The Walk and The Beach, but with the new development currently under construction, people can look forward to another leisure destination in 2018.
Bluewaters Island will consist of residences and several retail and leisure segments. It will feature a modern-design souk with a traditional market feel. The souk will house retail shops selling different items – from souvenirs to perfumes, clothes and accessories – and a section dedicated to fresh fruits and vegetables.
The souk will be embraced by a promenade that will be peppered with an eclectic mix of food and beverage establishments, offering diners an al fresco setting coupled with amazing views of the surroundings.
There will also be a section for hotels to encourage visiting families to stay longer and explore the varied attractions on the entire island.
Designed as the destination’s main feature is the Dubai Eye, soon to be the world’s tallest Ferris wheel at 210 metres high. The attraction will give leisure seekers panoramic views of JBR and the surrounding areas, the nearby coastline, the Dubai skyline and the emirate’s popular landmarks Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa. An LED screen will be installed on the wheel to advertise products, announce important events and promote new movies.
At the base of the Ferris wheel will be a plaza that will be home to several entertainment facilities. The zone will cater to conferences, parties and other private functions.
The island will be linked to the mainland via a bridge with a special lane for a driverless transport system to be connected to the Metro. Also in the plan are a footbridge that will connect it to JBR and a cable car system.
* Bluewaters Island will have residential, retail, leisure segments
* It will be linked to the mainland through a bridge and footbridge
* The entertainment zone will have facilities for private functions
