The developer has expanded its business portfolio with the creation of Nakheel Hospitality and Leisure, a new division that focuses on hotels, beach clubs and community recreation centres.
The developer will build nine hotels over the next three to five years, including The Palm Tower, a five-star, 50-storey hotel on Palm Jumeirah with 290 rooms and 504 serviced studios and apartments. The project was launched last month. Other hotels will be constructed at Ibn Battuta Mall, International City and Dragon Mart, where the first hotel will open this year.
Nakheel also presented at the conference other projects in the pipeline, including Deira Islands, a four-island, mixed-use waterfront development that will add more than 40km to Dubai's existing coastline, including 21km of beachfront. Deira Islands will also provide infrastructure for the development of dozens of hotels and resorts, serviced apartments, retail centres and individual homes.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Manchanda, CEO of Nakheel, said Dubai is the ideal venue for the hospitality conference. "The timing could not be better, as Dubai starts working towards realizing its new tourism vision: to double the number of visitors to 20 million per year by 2020," he said.
