Nakheel announced plans to partner with Thailand hotel group Centara Hotels and Resorts to create a 550-room resort on Deira Islands. The upscale beachfront resort, will have its own waterpark and will be the first Centara establishment in the UAE.
The resort and waterpark will be located within easy reach of Nakheel’s Deira Mall and Deira Islands Night Souk, which will have 6,400 shops, restaurants and cafés between them.
Centara’s portfolio includes around 14,000 rooms across 67 hotels and resorts under six brands in Asia, the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Middle East. The joint venture with Centara is the latest development in Nakheel’s aggressive expansion into the hospitality sector. The company said 10 hotels are planned across Dubai, with five on Deira Islands.
Nakheel’s hotel portfolio also includes the five-star Palm Tower on Palm Jumeirah, two hotels at Ibn Battuta Mall and two at Dragon City.
“We are delighted that one of Thailand’s most popular hotel operators has chosen to invest in Dubai and help us create yet another unique offering at Deira Islands,” said Ali Rashid Lootah, Chairman of Nakheel.
The company also announced that it is now preparing the design of a new 750-room hospitality concept on Deira Islands in collaboration with Spain’s RIU Hotels & Resorts. Nakheel and RIU plan to create one of Dubai’s biggest resorts in terms of rooms, and the first RIU resort in the Middle East.
