His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved Meydan One, a new 3.67-million-sq-m leisure, residential and hospitality development. Developer Meydan City Corporation said it will be home to more than 78,300 residents and include the 711m-tall Dubai One tower, expected to be the world’s tallest residence.
Dubai One and its integrated podium will incorporate 350,000 sq m of gross floor area, 885 residential apartments, a five-star hotel with 350 keys, a conference centre, a 360-degree observation deck at 655m, sky restaurant at 675m, another plaza view restaurant and terrace and the Meydan One Marina Yacht Club. The observation deck and sky restaurant will set new world records. Meydan One is also expected to be home to the world’s largest dancing fountain — at more than 420m in length it will eclipse the Dubai Fountain (275m) —and the world’s longest indoor ski slope at 1.2km.
Located between Meydan and Al Khail Road, the project will have a gross floor area of five million sq m and include Meydan One Mall, a 25,000-sq-m indoor multipurpose sport facility, more than 5.3km of bicycle and jogging trails, a 9km boardwalk, 300m beach, civic plaza to host up to 60,000 people and a heritage village.
The first phase of the development is scheduled for completion before 2020, when Dubai’s population is forecast to hit 3.4 million.
Meydan One Mall will have a retractable roof, which will be open in the winter months. There will also be more than 300 restaurants, cafés and kiosks.
“We have committed to developing a mixed-use destination, which goes beyond expectations,” said Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Meydan.
“The hard work starts now to ensure Meydan One is Dubai’s top leisure, hospitality and residential district.”
