The Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) is one of the world’s largest combined ports and industrial developments, it being combined with Khalifa Port. It has been developed as part of Abu Dhabi’s significant investment in sustainable economic growth.
The mega industrial zone announced earlier this year that it had completed the development of Kizad Logistics Park’s (KLP) Phase 1, with the majority of its units ready for handover. Approximately 83% of the warehouses were already leased to a number of local and international firms that began moving in straight away. These companies included logistics firm Agility and United Printing and Publishing whose portfolio includes The National, Financial Times UK and National Geographic.
Agility is one of the world’s leading providers of integrated logistics. It is already operating from the new 11,133 square-meter facility it leased within KLP, which is almost 1/4 of Phase 1’s total 46,453 square-meter area. This represents Abu Dhabi’s largest private sector warehouse leasing deal and one of the largest ever seen in the region.
Phase 2 construction has already begun with handover plans by Q1 of 2015. Upon completion, KLP will further strengthen Kizad’s position as one of the foremost regional logistics and warehousing centers supporting the already thriving Khalifa Port.
Another major company to sign a contract to operate within Kizad is the Abu Dhabi-based National Food Products Company (NFPC) which produces brands such as Oasis, Blu and Lacnor. Confident of the success of operating within Kizad, NFPC signed a 50-year agreement with the industrial zone, which will see an initial investment of Dh1.5 billion to develop a mega factory within the industrial zone.
Supermarket chain Spinneys has also invested in Kizad, signing a deal to open a cold storage facility within the cluster. This will provide Spinneys with the benefit of an established industrial infrastructure and give it superior access to global supply chains via the Khalifa Port.
