Recognized for its diverse cultural heritage, historical structures and a slew of urban developments, Sharjah’s surroundings are more hushed compared to the other cities within the country.
Its green spots, more than 50 in all, provide a tranquil oasis for residents and visitors who frequent these areas on weekends especially during the cold months.
The Al Majaz Waterfront Park is a wide expanse of green dotted with several features.
Get your senses ensnared by the sound and lighting effects of its enthralling musical fountain. Drawing huge crowds during daytime and night time, its attractions include entertainment and cultural sections, children’s playgrounds, jogging and bike tracks, a splash park and mini golf areas. Set against the lagoon and the tall buildings of Sharjah, the park is the perfect venue to while away time with family and friends.
The Sharjah National Park offers unperturbed bliss with its aviary, trees, ponds, eateries and great barbecue areas. Simply breathe in fresh air, or spend time getting fit by engaging in football, basketball, running or jogging.
Situated on an island in the very center of Sharjah, the Al Montazah Amusement and Water Park, formerly known as Al Jazeera Park, has a wide green area dedicated to picnics, exciting recreational amenities, breathtaking rides and play venues for kids. Families can engage in activities such as cycling, bumper car rides and go-kart racing as well.
The Rolla Square Park underwent a four-year redevelopment phase to give it a new look and update its features which include seven fountains, a tree-shaped cafeteria, playgrounds and lots of green spaces.
Children’s rides, football, basketball and volleyball courts, and a wide area of green are found at the Al Mufijah Park.
Other parks that provide residents respite from the daily routine are the Al Mahatta Park, Ittihad Square, Mazairah Public Park, and the Al Fisht, Al Falaj and Al Goaz Parks that are close to residential suburbs. All these have lush greenery and are surrounded by awe-inspiring structures that provide scenic vistas from afar.
Clearly, Sharjah is doing every bit to make it a green city.
