Emaar Properties is redefining urban mobility with the launch of a world-class trolley car system—a first in the region — in Downtown Dubai. A convenient and fun hop-on hop-off transit system, the Dubai Trolley will offer residents and visitors an attractive and user-friendly commuting service across the 500-acre development.
Spanning 7km, Dubai Trolley will serve as an exotic yet easy-to-access connecting link between the various attractions in Downtown Dubai, including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, and The Dubai Mall. Aligned along Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, the first phase of Dubai Trolley will cover a distance of 1km and have three stations for access to The Dubai Mall, The Address Downtown Dubai and Vida Downtown Dubai.
The first phase is scheduled for completion early next year. Work on the first phase of trolley tracks and Dubai Trolley depots has already commenced.
Passengers will also be able to access Souk Al Bahar, The Dubai Fountain and several residential towers and restaurants on Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard.
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, said: “Dubai Trolley is a smart urban mobility service that further builds on the trolley car systems in use across the US and Europe. While they were a game-changer in public transport when invented around the 1880s, they are now largely used as tourist attractions. We have innovated further on both design and technology for Dubai Trolley, incorporating world-class features and an environmentally sustainable system that supports the development vision of the UAE.”
Initially, Dubai Trolley will carry 74 passengers in double-decker cars and have open decks as well as air-conditioned seating. Resplendent in bright red with aesthetic gold pinstripes and a green trim, the design is polished. During winter, the glass window panels will be removed for added comfort.
Being electric, the smart Dubai Trolley will practically have zero emissions. It will travel at 16km/hr and boast a maximum speed of 80km/hr. Convenient crossings will be provided along the tramway to facilitate safe and easy pedestrian movement.
The Dubai Trolley Terminus near Old Town Island will feature several food and beverage outlets, while the well-appointed stations will reflect the architecture of Downtown Dubai.
