Q Group last week signed an agreement with Drydocks World, which will be providing offshore marine and operational management solutions for the developer's Great Britain island destination on The World project in Dubai.
Q Group said it will also be unveiling plans for a luxury resort, private villas, water villas, serviced hotel apartments, an event and wedding venue, and offshore restaurants and bars.
Drydocks World will design, engineer and build marine-based solutions, including utilities, for the Great Britain island's five-star resort and residences.
Meanwhile, The World master developer Nakheel released a statement shortly after the announcement saying it has not approved any design and construction plans for the Great Britain project.
"We are surprised at and intrigued by the news, given that there are still considerable payments outstanding in relation to the purchase of the island," Nakheel said. "No design application will be accepted, nor will construction be permitted, until payment has been made."
Q Group, for its part, said both parties are currently discussing revised payment terms. The developer also said it has submitted a proposal in early September and is now awaiting Nakheel's response.
"Naturally, we have no intention of commencing construction until final designs for our resort on Great Britain island have been approved by Nakheel," said Safi Qorashi, CEO and founder of Q Group.
"But we remain committed to making this project a major success, and this is why we have signed an agreement with Drydocks World." "We're confident that this will help drive development and investment for The World project as a whole.”
