The biggest Chinese trading area in the UAE located near International City, Dragon Mart, is set to be transformed into a huge shopping, leisure and residential hub to be renamed Dragon City.
The best place to grab the best deals on clothes, accessories and household items will be extended by 6.5 million square feet, with 1.3 million square feet of retail space, equivalent to 17 football pitches.
The whole extension, a mixed-use community, will be occupied by cinemas, hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes, entertainment venues, showroom-style complex that will cater to furniture traders, new mall with plenty of car parking areas and mid to high-end residences. Construction is being done in two phases, with the first phase expected to open later this year.
Dragon City’s new retail units have been put up for lease since May. Since then, there has been an influx of Chinese traders who are eager to stake their claim and reserve their names on a little piece of China right in Dubai.
Alongside the dual residential towers which will have more than 1,000 apartments and which will be connected to the new mall through a covered walkway, Dragon City will also have two hotels with over 200 rooms each. One of them will be launched for occupancy this year.
The extension is in addition to Dragon Mart’s earlier expansion which added a multi-level car park, hotel and mall.
Dragon Mart attracts scores of people from the UAE and beyond for the affordable items it offers. In addition, it is a shopping paradise at the doorstep of several residents of International City.
The transformation of Dragon Mart into Dragon City is set to attract Chinese traders who wish to invest in the region. It is also expected to further improve the trade relations between the UAE and China.
