Arabtec Holding has announced that its subsidiary, Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company (Efeco), has been awarded a $239 million (Dh877.63 million) joint venture contract to carry out mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) work at the new Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal Building (MTB).
The 700,000-sq-m terminal building will accommodate up to 65 aircraft, including the Airbus A380, with an expected capacity of 30 million passengers per year. It will have 165 conventional check-in counters and 48 self-service kiosks capable of handling 8,500 passengers per hour.
The MTB project is currently under construction by a joint venture of Arabtec Construction, TAV Construction and Consolidated Contractors International, which awarded the MEP contract to a joint venture of Efeco, BK Gulf and China State, according to a statement.
Hasan Abdullah Ismaik, Managing Director and CEO of Arabtec Holding, said: “We are pleased with this new contract win, adding to Efeco’s already impressive backlog, which has already crossed the Dh1-billion mark.”
Meanwhile, the firm has also announced it has won a Dh22.44-billion contract from Aabar Properties to build 37 towers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The deal involves the construction of hotels and residential buildings, the company said.
Arabtec said Aabar plans to award it $20 billion worth of deals in countries including the US, Egypt, Morocco and Serbia.
Last month, Arabtec won a Dh5.7-billion contract to build an amusement park in Jordan.
