Moving to a new place is an experience most of us look forward to sans the dreadful thought of moving our household goods which can be a nightmare if not planned properly. But not to worry as there are many reliable packers and movers who can make it feel like a cakewalk. But the trick is in knowing your needs, planning ahead of time, and research to find the right movers and packers who will do the job for you.
Choosing the right movers and packers depends on where you plan to move, the most complex being moving to a different country which may involve customs clearances and a long period in which you may not have access to your goods.
Selection can be greatly influenced by budget. Another important criterion is the agent's presence in both source and destination locations, especially in the destination as customs clearance can be tricky. Other than this, if your budget allows, always insist on booking a full container and direct shipment rather than trans-shipment which can delay the whole process. Some other points to consider would be material packaging and handling, and insuring your goods which could cost up to 3% of the value of goods declared.
When moving to a different locality or city, things are less complex and you may be able to save some money by balancing cost vs. reputation of the movers and packers since it is involves travel on a short distance and, in most cases, without multiple handling. Paperwork includes the packing list which details all goods being transported, source and destination contact of the moving agency, insurance documents, and a declaration that goods are of a domestic nature.
• Pick a mover present in the origin and destination
• Don't ship goods prohibited in destination country
• Picking the right mover depends on where you move
