The world keeps 'getting smaller' every day – a truism applicable to congestion and overcrowding – common characteristics of urban centers like Tokyo, New York, Mumbai, London and Hong Kong, with Central Dubai being no exception.
That is where the image of the typical urbanite comes into the picture – rushing through life on a daily basis, yet always in search of something quiet, peaceful... a place that will soothe at the end of each hectic day without requiring one to have too deep a pocket to live there.
For some time now, some Dubai urban dwellers had begun looking into relatively newer places like Queue Point in Dubailand, foregoing noisier, more crowded districts. Nestled in this center of growth and change, Queue Point is part of the beautifully designed Liwan settlement created to resemble the San Francisco neighborhood in the USA.
And although the infrastructure is yet to be finished, the promise of what is to come was not missed by Gerald (last name withheld upon request), a facilities management executive in the Al Futtaim Group, and his wife Geraldine.
''Prior to Queue Point, we lived in Bur Dubai for two years, and then we moved to Queue Point July of this year. Our decision to move was prompted by the high rental charges and the traffic congestion which is part and parcel of life in Bur Dubai – it just wasn't worth it,'' says Gerald in retrospect.
Being located in Dubailand, Queue Point is only a short drive from key Dubai destinations like Global Village, the Dubai International Airport, DWTC, Emirates Towers and DIFC, and is quite close to the Dubai Outlet Mall and Dubai International Academic City.
''The reasonable price of the rent and the location of the community were our primary considerations as we already experienced what it was like living in the heart of the city where traffic is everywhere. So right there and then, we began looking for a place where traffic is a little less and a place that's a bit more peaceful, too. Queue Point was our only choice as we already saw the place when we visited a relative already living in the community. But we did visit Queue Point several times before we finally decided on a unit. We recorded the travel time and the different routes going to and from the city – and they were all good! So, we finally decided to move here. Prior to Queue Point, we needed at least 30 minutes to one hour to get to work from Bur Dubai to Dubai Festival City. But now, it only takes about 15 minutes, so I definitely have more quality time with my family. It also takes less than 10 minutes to drive to Mirdif City Centre where we go for our supplies and leisure needs,'' explains Gerald.
He also commends the services they are getting in the community, ''We felt at home on our first day of moving here. The security staff and the housekeepers were all very accommodating and assisted us greatly in making our move to the community a good one, so I don't mind saying the security and housekeeping/maintenance services here deserve a thumbs-up. There are CCTV cameras and roaming security officers in each building. The lobbies are always kept clean and tidy, and the maintenance team is quick in responding to our issues, even the minor ones.''
Gerald says that aside from the peace and quiet his family enjoys each day, they also have good views of the Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and the Nad Al Sheba Armed Forces Camp.
''I only wish that all the facilities and amenities in the master plan will come to fruition. We can see that work is still ongoing, and we hope to finally enjoy the finished 'product' soon,'' says Gerald.
