In the middle of juggling work and personal life, you probably find yourself wishing to be whisked to some place where only the sounds of nature break the silence. Perhaps you’re a resident pining for a weekend staycation, or a tourist searching for a diversion, a break from the usual. Then hop on a car, or take the quickest route via commercial/private plane and head off to Sir Bani Yas Island.
Located 250 kilometers off the Abu Dhabi coast, the island is considered the biggest natural island in the UAE. It is a vast space of sand transformed into an oasis of green, but with a few sandy patches here and there.
Here, thousands of animals (and birds), some indigenous to the area, roam in the wild. The Arabian Wildlife Park, which spans about half of the island, is dedicated to these creatures. Visitors can choose from the many nature-based activities available such as horseback riding, wildlife safari, nature walk and biking to see the animals up close, or sea/mangrove kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, diving and deep sea fishing.
The island is even an ideal destination for history and culture as it has many archeological sites. It was recently cited as the “World’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination” for its ecological conservation efforts while promoting tourism.
Sir Bani Yas Island has a trio of stay options that allows guests to wake up to spectacular views of the beach and the lush terrain. The three five-star hotels in the area boast spacious villas and rooms with modern comforts. Aside from these, the Desert Islands Conference Centre is perfect for business meetings and conferences.
The island also hosts a dizzying array of dining outlets that offer varied cuisines – from seafood, international and Middle Eastern to African, Arabic and Mediterranean. Nightcap venues are likewise available.
