Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) is a unique yet popular high-rise development in Dubai. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is partly freehold and partly free zone, thus facilitating families and professionals to reside and work here at the same time.
Located across the road from Dubai Marina, JLT can be accessed via Exit 32 or 29 on Shaikh Zayed Road, leading you to the north or south of the development, respectively. The area comprises a total of over 70 towers, most of which are now complete, each having its own parking structure and retail water-front. The towers are distributed across 26 clusters of three named from A to Z, all of which provide breathtaking views of either the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai Marina or the lakes that are set around it.
The JLT and Damac Metro Stations in close vicinity make the area extremely well connected. The pres-ence of schools and malls at short driving distances further adds to the positives of the locality.
Wanting to be part of this “good address,” Suniil and Reshmi, along with their daughter Niharika (age nine) and son Aryan (age six), decided to purchase an apartment in Al Seef 2 six years back. The family of four previously resided in Al Nahda.
In the words of Reshmi, “We were contemplating moving to New Dubai primarily for a superior quality of life besides being in proximity to various prominent landmarks of the city. However, upon visiting our prospective apartment, viewing its floor plan and the overall quality of the tower itself, we were completely sold to the idea.
“We have a spacious, well-laid out two-bedroom apartment with a hall, kitchen and a separate maid’s room. Since our apartment is located on a high floor, it gives us a beautiful all-round view of Shaikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina and the golf course.”
Reshmi added that living in JLT imparts a great community feel. “Over the years, we have made several friends around here who also happen to be good neighbors. And with DMCC having converted one of the lakes into a massive and well-designed park lately, there is a lot of opportunity for people of all age groups to interact with one another. Also, as a family, we look forward to some physical activity on a daily basis, and now we have the option to either use the new park or to walk, jog or cycle around the lake. But naturally, my kids adore this place.”
While Reshmi owns a retail security systems company in the nearby Tecom area, her husband works in Deira. The kids go to a school in Nad Al Sheba. However, distance is not a concern for the family. “The connectivity of JLT to any other parts of Dubai is great and multi-modal – either through road, the Metro, tram or water (from the Marina side),” says Reshmi.
Echoing her sentiment about the community, her husband Suniil is quick to add, “JLT is a wonderful and convenient residence. There is a range of supermarkets, fitness centers, salons, bakeries, banks and pretty much everything one can ask for at a stone’s throw distance. The internal roads are well maintained, and with an adequate level of security, it provides a safe environment to live in.”
Finally, when asked to point out any shortcomings of the locality, the otherwise satisfied couple ex-plains, “As known to all, the towers in Jumeirah Lakes Towers are constructed around the edges of artificial lakes. Hence, in order to access a building across the road or on the opposite end, one needs to walk all around the lake which can get tiring at times.”
• Affordable yet modern living; spacious homes
• Convenient location and superior connectivity
• Presence of parks and lakes promoting outdoor activities
• Poor quality of finishing in some towers
• One-way traffic system in internal roads leading to time delays
• Long distances when travelling on foot from one end to the other
