You could be forgiven for not knowing exactly where Jumeirah Islands is. Tucked away from major commuting routes, the development is still well connected to the rest of Dubai. It is directly inland from Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Lakes Towers, just off Shaikh Zayed Road, and within minutes from other large communities.

The name itself is not a metaphor as Jumeirah Islands is just that, a development consisting of small islands that sit on a man-made lake. At present, it has 50 islands which are divided into 46 residential clusters such as Mediterranean, Tropical, Islamic, Oasis, The Mansions and European, among others. Each cluster features 16 luxury villas with their own swimming pool and distinct architecture.

Last year, the community's developer awarded a contract to an Abu Dhabi-based contracting company to construct 84 townhouses and eight retail zones in the area. The four-bedroom townhouses will have a study, a maid's room, a double garage and a private garden in a verdant landscape setting. The new gated community will have a huge communal swimming pool.

The project is part of the 608,000-square-foot waterfront park and recreational area within Jumeirah Islands. The retail units will be the centrepiece of the Jumeirah Islands Park, a waterfront leisure, dining and shopping hub designed for both residents and visitors to enjoy. This will include a communal parkland as well as a retail centre that will feature a supermarket, restaurants and cafes, sports courts, a jogging track and a fitness centre, all equipped with ample parking. The project is expected to be completed next year.

Jumeirah Islands currently has key community amenities such as a clubhouse which provides access to leisure facilities such as a gym, swimming pool and aerobics studios, children's play area and dining establishments. The clubhouse is home to various organisations including the National Ballet Studio that teaches dance to both children and adults.
