Imagine a group of skyscrapers washed in desert yellow color with a complimentary beach at their doorstep. Also thrown in are the European-style cobbled streets that make for a popular hangout for visitors and residents alike.
Here, indeed, at Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) is a complete recipe for a Mediterranean lifestyle – a community so popular that it takes a prominent place in a Dubai tourist's itinerary.
Located in Dubai Marina, JBR is a waterfront locality running parallel to the Arabian Gulf. A locality 'premium' in every word, it comprises world-class hotels, classy restaurants, popular eateries, shops and boutiques located at ground and plaza levels.
The Walk at JBR makes for a popular tourist destination, creating one huge pedestrian-friendly beachfront hub for strolling, shopping and socializing. The excitement at The Walk is palpable which makes it a buzzing cosmopolitan hangout. JBR, too, has become the pivot point for viewing fireworks at Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa during New Year's Eve celebrations.
A series of notable upgrades have made JBR one of the most happening communities in New Dubai.
The upcoming Al Sufouh Tramway will make JBR's connectivity with other areas much easier. In addition, the Bluewaters Island will be constructed opposite JBR. It will have striking features like the Dubai Eye which is slated to be the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. This development will house worldclass hotels, apartments, villas, dining and entertainment facilities.
A relatively recent development, The Beach at JBR may technically be a shopping complex but has lot more to offer than what meets the eye. Spacious and grassy lawns, a running track, free outdoor fitness equipment, a splash park all combine to make The Beach an amazing avenue to enjoy the great outdoors.
To top it all, the concept of outdoor cinema at The Beach has made it a wholesome entertainment destination by itself. Extensive landscaping works along with community facilities and improved access are well in progress and will surely enhance the experience of living in this community.
Vikram and Anu Chopra and their three sons have made JBR their home ever since they relocated to Dubai some six years back. Vikram is the Director of Projects with a construction company, while Anu works as a freelance image consultant.
When the Chopras relocated from the US, they were looking for a community that was accessible, convenient and had a multicultural feel to it.
''Having moved to Dubai, we wanted to raise our kids in a multicultural environment, which was one of the prime factors for choosing JBR as our residence. JBR is also a community of conveniences,'' opines Anu. ''Hospital, salons, grocery stores, the beach, pools, grassy areas and playgrounds – everything that a family needs are all found here. We love lazing around the beach and going for daily walks. My kids go to play every day in the grassy spots. And there is a beautiful cosmopolitan vibe to the place,'' explains Anu.
When asked to see if there is any downside to living in JBR, Anu says, ''Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of staying in JBR is the horrible traffic that people often get stuck into especially during peak hours. This is primarily due to the fact that The Walk is a single-lane road. We just hope that traffic bottlenecks can be smoothened out. Visitor parking is also an issue although a public parking area has been opened of late, but there is often a long queue for it. Other than these, we simply love this community!''
