The past decade has seen a number of freehold localities springing up around the high-profile Shaikh Zayed Road, offering serene community living and easy access to the metro stations.
One such community that has emerged in the form of clusters of high-rises with beautiful lakes is the Jumeirah Lakes Towers, commonly referred to as JLT. The USP of JLT lies in its relatively traffic-free environment juxtaposed to neighbouring Dubai Marina.
Vaibhav Modi and his wife Tanu chose JLT when they relocated from India around two years back. Vaibhav works as Human Resources Manager at PepsiCo while Tanu is a Software Engineer. Their six-year-old son Sambhav is a student at Springdales School Dubai.
When asked about their life in JLT, Tanu remarks that their locality has made a positive impact on the family’s lifestyle in numerous ways.
She says, “JLT has shaped itself as a great residential area providing a 55,000-square-foot green park with a dedicated jogging track, open-air gyms and lots of play areas for kids. This ensures that we spend more time outdoors and get a chance to connect with other families in the locality.
“Our son enjoys the play area which is located right below our building in Cluster Q. Space for cycling, skating and playing football is an added bonus for the kids. Vaibhav also enjoys his morning jog that helps him keep fit and healthy.”
Tanu says she is happy with the motley of conveniences offered in the neighbourhood and that her residential experience has become better by the day. She adds that she loves the social atmosphere the community offers.
“Winters are amazingly great as people can be seen enjoying park parties and picnics without the hassle of traveling elsewhere. It is a pleasure to reside amidst a cosmopolitan community as neighbours. Over the years, JLT has become a very happening place that keeps the excitement going on across the year. There is a wide range of activities like flea markets and movies in the park. The DSF Carnival offers entertainment options while a club car that runs across clusters facilitates short-distance travel to metro stations.”
JLT houses a wide array of multi-cuisine restaurants which caters to different taste buds. Its proximity to two metro stations, JLT and Damac, is one of the salient features of the locality. It has free parking for guests. Tanu says the fact that each cluster has its own shopping outlets which cater to basic grocery needs, like Zoom, Carrefour and Geant, adds a special feather to its convenience factor.
“From the proximity point of view, JLT is convenient for Vaibhav whose office is located at Emaar Square in Downtown Dubai. This translates to a convenient 20-minute commute through Al Khail or Shaikh Zayed Road.”
Tanu, however, feels the need for a public library in the area along with avenues for pursuing hobbies like a music school for kids that offers affordable tuition.
She said she loves the lakes that add aesthetic value to the locality and provide a calm and soothing view from the apartments; however, the bad smell emerging from these is a major damper.
“Hence, better maintenance of the lakes at regular intervals is surely called for,” she concludes.
• Green and well-planned
• Gyms, jogging tracks, play areas and parks
• Variety of restaurants
• Plenty of activities throughout the year
• Access to metro station
• Pet-friendly community
• Lack of centres offering hobby classes
• Absence of a public library
• Irregular cleaning of the lakes
