They say Dubai is a city of superlatives, and Palm Jumeirah is one of these. Named one of the biggest man-made islands in the world and considered one of the greatest engineering feats, the palm tree-shaped development has permanently figured in every tourist and visitor's must-see list since it was launched.
Palm Jumeirah is both a residential and commercial destination. Aside from apartments, villas and townhomes that dot the island, it also houses some of the biggest and most popular names in the hospitality industry, topping the roster of which is Atlantis. The five-star hotel has been a constant crowd magnet as its boasts the Aquaventure Waterpark featuring heart-pumping slides and other attractions, and several high-end dining establishments. Other renowned hotels in the area are Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Waldorf Astoria, Fairmont, Rixos, Anantara and One & Only The Palm, among others.
Aside from the dining outlets in hotels, there are also several other food and beverage outlets nestled amidst the many residential communities on the island.
The area is also poised to become a retail destination with new malls in the pipeline. Nakheel Mall will feature a 15-theater cinema, five storeys of retail areas, two department stores, a fitness complex and a medical center. The Boardwalk is a waterfront address that will host hundreds of luxury retail shops, cafes and restaurants along its stretch, while The Pointe will have retail and dining outlets complemented with a water feature.
Palm Jumeirah has been a choice venue for entertainment activities and concerts including the yearly Sandance featuring popular names in the music industry like The Killers and The Script, sports events like marathons and other festivities like New Year's Eve fireworks.
With its offerings that span from dining to entertainment and more coming up, expect Palm Jumeirah to stay on top of anyone's ''must'' list.
