Amongst the umpteen freehold developments that have sprung up in Dubai in the last decade or so, Discovery Gardens has been a major mainstay particularly in the affordable housing segment. It comprises six themed districts, namely Zen, Cactus, Mediterranean, Mesoamerican, Contemporary and Mogul, with each area consisting of apartments in different sizes.
The fact that Discovery Gardens lies in close proximity to business districts like Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City makes it a popular residential choice. It is a huge community with around 250 European-style buildings, each cluster having its unique style with spacious units and community facilities. The place offers a peaceful environment for people coming from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Krishnakumar and Aparna moved to their residence with their daughters Kripa and Krithika four years back. Krishnakumar, an entrepreneur in Dubai Investments Park, and Aparna, a homemaker, own a house in the Contemporary cluster of Discovery Gardens.
Previous residents of Sharjah, the Krishnakumars feel that the move to Discovery Gardens has proved highly advantageous as it has eased out the travel time for Krishnakumar to his workplace, and also for the kids who study in DPS, The Gardens which is situated in their neighborhood.
“My husband’s tiring days in the car driving from Sharjah to DIP came to an end with our move to Discovery Gardens,” says Aparna.
The beautifully constructed buildings and green surroundings, a friendly neighborhood and a host of facilities in and around Discovery Gardens have facilitated the migration of an increasing number of people to the conveniently located locality.
Aparna explains, “Kids have become more active here as they have a spacious play area, and a safe and secure environment. There are swimming pools, supermarkets, clinics, a range of restaurants, ample parking space, basketball courts, a gymnasium, etc. Living here is like having all facilities at one’s doorstep. Then we have Ibn Battuta Mall nearby (just ten minutes away). Dubai Marina Mall and the Mall of the Emirates are the other malls located relatively close to Discovery Gardens. Round-the-clock taxi service is available, and access to The Metro means connectivity with other parts of Dubai is easy from Discovery Gardens.”
Traffic to and from Discovery Gardens during peak hours is crazy due to the entry and exit being very narrow and limited compared to the needs of the mammoth housing community. This is one big daily problem that residents of this area are facing. Another complaint involves the unpleasant smell present in almost all clusters due to the sewage treatment plant. Aparna hopes that the authorities are taking steps to resolve these problems soon.
Other than those, she feels blessed to be living in a calm and peaceful environment. Discussing how Discovery Gardens has provided their family a happy residential community, Aparna comments, “It’s a heady mix of cultures merged in a harmonious manner. Together, we celebrate festivals like Holi, Diwali, Halloween, Christmas, New Year, etc. They are really fun times and they make community relations stronger. Picnics, get-togethers, birthday parties – all are celebrated here, and all of us enjoy them as a family.”
“Our decision of shifting to this place was really wise. Our family is having a great time here, and we love being a part of Discovery Gardens,” concludes Aparna.
