Winding down the lanes off Airport Road, you pull into the serene locale of Al Karamah Street. Warm, tree-lined and buzzing with activity, this is definitely one place where you will find an amalgamation of cultures. A dash of old-meets-new is visible in the architectural style that you can see around the area. Be it quaint old villas or gleaming towers and schools – life in the Al Karamah area is the best of both worlds. Also around the Al Karamah Street are Al Mushrif and the Al Mussalla areas.
The area is quite popular with expatriates who wish to live in a home that is away from the bustling chaos of the main city, yet still has the feel of the buzz of an urban lifestyle. Al Karamah is full of little streets and though it may look a little tricky, you will start to get comfortable once you explore it on your own.
Al Karamah Complex is one of the older villa compounds, popular amongst residents. It may lack the gleam and glamour of the newer communities, but there’s no mistaking the cozy and homely feeling. Right from the big trees that surround the villas, to the quiet little pathways that connect the streets inside, the rustic charm resonates everywhere. The complex has a swimming pool, a small gym and a designated play area for kids. Each house has its own parking space, and a mini backyard.
Jigsaw Nursery and First Steps Nursery School are two in the list of popular academic institutions in this area. Among the more exclusive schools in this locale include The British School - Al Khubairat, the Lycée Louis Massignon, American International School (AISA) and the Abu Dhabi International School. The adjoining suburb of Al Mushrif is also known with families for the abundance of schools and nurseries.
If you are looking for some retail therapy, then The Al Wahda Mall, which is located at the corner of 11th and 2nd Streets, and the Al Mushrif Mall are the closest to this area. Both are home to some of the biggest international brands, electronics, kids play areas and also lavish food courts. The Al Karamah Street also has some famous salons and nail bars. If street shopping is your thing, there are plenty of souk-style shops and vendors who would be up for a good bargain.
