When completed, the Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi will consist of a mélange of cultural and art venues, residential options, and leisure and entertainment facilities.
The art and cultural venues are aimed at giving local and international artists platforms to showcase their work, and share ideas and network with fellow artists. These will also give art enthusiasts the opportunity to be exposed to different works of art and the various cultures within the region and beyond.
One such art cum cultural destination on the island that is currently operational is Manarat Al Saadiyat, which translates to “the place of enlightenment.” Opened to the public in 2010, it occupies a massive space, giving way to the creation of four art galleries. Three of the galleries play host to temporary and permanent art and cultural exhibits displaying a wide range of collections from every part of the world and educational activities, while the fourth schools visitors on the story of the island and how it is helping the capital give life to part of its many objectives of making it a global destination not only for business but also for arts and culture and other sectors.
The venue also has a long roster of activities conducted throughout the year, giving visitors, young and old alike, varied options to feed their interests and enhance their artistic skills. These may range from workshops to educational talks, to movie screenings and even performances.
Aside from the multiple gallery spaces, Manarat Al Saadiyat also features a central gallery dedicated to special events/activities, a sales centre that entertains investor queries on the various developments on Saadiyat Island, a theatre that can seat over 200 people and several meeting rooms. The artistic destination, likewise, houses a retail shop and a restaurant.
Manarat Al Saadiyat has also been the home of the yearly art event Abu Dhabi Art, which promotes contemporary and modern art, since 2011.
