Selvin and Audrey Rodrigues and their daughter Arilda have been residing in the Discovery Gardens for almost two years now.
Selvin works as a Senior Account Manager with Promoseven 360, an advertising agency, while Audrey is a homemaker. Arilda is a student of Delhi Private School which is located just in the neighbourhood.
According to Audrey, Discovery Gardens is a nice, green and pleasing locality. She says, “The unique selling point of Discovery Gardens lies in the host of conveniences that dots the locality.”
She adds, “Every street has its own park and pool. There are other facilities, too, like basketball and tennis courts. For the housewives, the area is quite convenient as there are supermarkets and grocery stores around.”
She further reveals that Ibn Battuta Mall being just a stone’s throw away is a big plus. The mall serves as a major entertainment destination for residents on weekends.
Other weekend “hangouts” are popular developments Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Dubai Marina (including Jumeirah Beach Residence) which are located close by. These are frequented by both resi-dents and tourists for the variety of dining establishments available.
Residents are likewise glad that a little auto shop can be found on one end of the ENOC gas station, finding themselves not having to travel far for any quick and basic auto needs.
Transportation-wise, the area is well-serviced by the Ibn Battuta Metro Station which connects Jebel Ali to other parts of the city. There are also feeder buses from the metro station with various bus stops every hundred metres or so. There is no shortage of cabs as well.
Audrey remarks that the area is nice to live in although a few niggles have to be dealt with.
“The lack of maintenance at the Street 9 park is a major concern among the residents living nearby. It is quite unhygienic for the kids to play there. Muddy puddles around the park due to leakage in the irrigation system leave the area contaminated with flies. Colonies of ants make the area even unfavourable for the kids,” she enumerates.
It is because of these unhygienic conditions that Audrey avoids taking her daughter to the park.
She, however, sincerely hopes that the concerned authorities quickly tend to the irrigation system in the area so that the water leakage can be resolved and the park well maintained to promote a safe and clean playground for all kids.
Other than that, Audrey is happy that the newly opened Discovery Gardens Pavilion, located between Streets 8 and 9, has added another convenience factor to the community.
The pavilion, which hosts a Geant supermarket, a nursery, a Medcare Medical Centre and a couple of restaurants and cafes, has made things much more easier for all residents.
On the other hand, Selvin adds that the newly opened exits in the area have reduced the commuting time to his office in Tecom to almost 20 minutes from the previous 45 minutes.
Audrey says that with the gradual positive changes taking place, like the opening of the pavilion and the installation of additional street lights, Discovery Gardens is coming into its own and has turned into a vibrant community.
