When affordability and convenience are prime considerations when looking for a freehold residential unit in Dubai, Discovery Gardens proves one of the unbeatable options. With a nice landscaping, this residential pocket in Jebel Ali is, hands down, a winner where comfort and affordable rates are concerned.
Featuring recreational facilities like a football ground, swimming pools, and basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, and lots of greenery and open spaces, the community is a motley mix of style, nature and practical lifestyle far from the crowded areas.
Though the area was notorious for the horrendous traffic bottlenecks at the exit, the residents are now heaving a sigh of relief with the opening of a section of Al Khail Road, which has eased the mainstream traffic flow towards Shaikh Zayed and Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Roads.
Vinayak Ahuja, a retail operations manager, wife Khushboo, a caterer by profession, and children Aditya and Gauranshi are happy residents of Discovery Gardens. The family moved to the Mogul Cluster from Bur Dubai six years ago.
Discussing the advantages of living in Discovery Gardens, Khushboo says, ''We moved to Discovery Gardens when the community was in its newer stage. Clean, open areas with ample greenery, children's play areas and swimming pool attracted us to shift to this pleasant place. We are happy that our kids have plenty of open spaces where they can play, swim and ride their bikes. My hubby and I enjoy going for walks.''
Elaborating further, she says, ''Discovery Gardens exudes a feeling of openness, with a great community life. Shopping is at our convenience with lots of grocery stores in the area. Salons and clinics are all within reachable distance. We are also well connected to all major areas of Dubai.
''I love being here. The clean, fresh air and the chirping of birds bring beautiful times each morning. Evenings are full of the laughter of fun-loving children playing. The community gives us a social feeling. Despite being far away from our home country, we have made a lot of friends and we celebrate festivals together with fun and joy.''
Vinayak, who often visits the leading shopping malls in the country as part of his job, says he finds it rather convenient to commute from Discovery Gardens to his company headquarters in Jebel Ali. He adds that their decision to reside in the area has made all things more comfortable.
Khusboo adds, ''All the areas that we need to visit are within 30 minutes away. Moving to Discovery Gardens has changed Vinayak's commuting time to almost half. There is also no stress finding a parking spot here, be it in the middle of the night or even during public holidays. My son Aditya goes to school in Al Barsha, so that is just a 30-minute drive by school transport.''
She adds that the opening of the Discovery Gardens Pavilion on Street 8, which is within walking distance from their home, has brought some amenities in proximity, making their lives much better. The pavilion houses a Geant supermarket, salons, clinic and pharmacy, among others.
The family feels that the community's only shortcoming is the unavailability of a good gym nearby as all gyms are located on Street 1.
''We wish that a gym opens at the pavilion. The community could also benefit from well-maintained green areas especially during summer,'' concludes Khushboo.
• Safe and secure
• Good landscaping
• Children's play areas
• Sports facilities
• Pharmacies, clinics, supermarkets and restaurants
• Easy access to the Dubai Metro
• Absence of gyms in other clusters
• Poor maintenance of green areas
