When it comes to affordable housing, the name Discovery Gardens deserves a special mention. And the host of conveniences that comes along with it is like icing on the cake.
That is exactly how the Kurian family feels about Discovery Gardens, their home for the past six years.
Anil George Kurian, a Logistics Manager at Dillinger Middle East FZE, and wife Jeena have never regretted their decision of moving from Al Nahda, Sharjah to this calm, peaceful and fully developed precinct of Jebel Ali.
Jeena, who admits that she has never been happier, says, “Living in Discovery Gardens means that the major hassle of driving all the way to and from Sharjah has been averted as I was working in some part of Dubai and my husband was working in JAFZ.
“Hence, our foremost reason for choosing this community was that it is just a ten-minute drive to my husband’s office and a five-minute drive to my son Alan’s school, the Delhi Private School located in the neighbourhood.”
Jeena says Discovery Gardens is a well-planned community with spacious apartments, modern and excellent amenities and facilities, and plenty of greenery, plus chirping birds. “We often see parrots lurking near our windowsill. It is quite a sight in such an urban setting.”
Asked about the impact of their move, Jeena says, “The major change is that we get to spend more time together as a family. Evenings are spent as leisure time by going for a swim or a game of basketball and tennis, or just lazing around reading a book on the wooden bench in the open space amidst beautiful landscaping.”
Ibn Battuta Mall is just a few minutes’ drive away so shopping has become a cakewalk for residents. There are also many grocery shops around that facilitate quick home deliveries as well as a range of restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. Apart from these, the nearest metro station is Ibn Battuta Metro Station with feeder buses plying the entire neighbourhood. The community also has easy ac-cess to Shaikh Zayed Road (SZR), which translates to convenient access to other parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
When asked about any alterations done to their place, Jeena reveals that transforming their closed kitchen into an open one has been a big welcome change for her. “I love this concept as it allows me to be part of a fun discussion with family and friends while cooking,” she explains.
Quite happy with her current lifestyle, Jeena goes on to add that Discovery Gardens is one of the most child-friendly developments in Dubai. “It has plenty of spaces for children to play, with dedicated play areas for smaller kids.”
She agrees that facing the horrendous traffic bottlenecks at peak hours is a major challenge faced by the whole community, but is quick to admit that this problem is typical to urban communities.
“An alternative road to Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road or another bypass to SZR would probably offer a solution to this lingering problem. Also, life would be much easier for us if there are dedicated bicycle parking areas so that bicycles can be parked conveniently rather than taking them back and forth to our homes, which proves quite cumbersome,” Jeena concludes.
