A cosmopolitan haven away from the crowds

A meticulously planned community, Abu Dhabi’s Al Reem Island is a mega development which offers premier residential and commercial addresses and a remarkable lifestyle.

One of the earlier residents of Khalidiya, the Maheshwari family says they bought a property in Marina Square, one of the many projects on the island, during construction phase as it is “the nearest leasehold property to the city.” The family, consisting of Vikas, an investment professional at Abu Dhabi Capital Group; wife Ritu, a homemaker; and kids Aarav and Aarna, seems to be quite happy with their lifestyle today.

In the words of Vikas, “Marina Square is a calm and serene development featuring a cosmopolitan style of living in contrast to the crowded Khalidiya which is beset with maintenance and parking issues.”

The family, who has been residing in the area for three years now, enjoys the host of amenities and comforts that it has on offer.

Vikas says, “A fantastic open-air play area for children ensures that our kids get to play in the fresh air. The pedestrian walkways beside the pristine waters of the marina provide a refreshing alternative to a fitness routine in the well- maintained gym, sauna and swimming pool.

“A Geant supermarket makes for convenience in day-to-day shopping and a variety of restaurants offers good eating-out options.”

Apart from the above, Vikas swears by other favourable facets of the area, allocated car parking being on top of the list. He adds that the surrounding waters of the island bring about a natural reduction in temperatures by two to three degrees – a welcome respite, keeping in mind the scorching heat in the UAE.

The island also provides residents with spectacular views of the marina and the city. Furthermore, it has easy proximity to the city centre and is close to the business district of Al Maryah Island. The proximity factor to the city centre works in their favour as Vikas’ office is located in Khalidiya, a 15-minute drive away.

They are also happy that they are not bothered by traffic congestion anymore. “Being away from crowded places and traffic was one of the obvious reasons why we chose this area as our residence. Good property layout and maintenance, coupled with round-the-clock security, were the other factors that influenced our decision,” reveals Vikas.

Schools on the island are a big help for residents with children. The couple’s four-year-old son Aarav studies at the nearby Repton School.

According to the investment professional, although the locality is beautiful with a cosmopolitan charm about it, it still needs to be further developed. He says, “Despite being a newly built community of around 15 high-rise buildings, there are no dedicated jogging and cycling tracks, a park and garden around.”

He adds, “Sports amenities like tennis, soccer and basketball courts would definitely bring the area a facelift. Maintenance, chiller and cooking gas charges are on the higher end. The allocation of additional parking spots at reasonable costs would be an added advantage.”

However, the Maheshwari family finds Marina Square a residential haven. “The addition of the aforementioned facilities will definitely make it a much better place to live in,” concludes Vikas.
