A new complex with light industrial units for companies will come up in Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) in the next one and a half years. The new project is a collaboration between the free zone and a real estate developer which owns the plot. The facility is located close to the current headquarters of DAFZA on the north side of the Dubai International Airport.
At the moment, around 1,600 companies from Germany, France, UK, US, and Japan operate from DAFZA. In the first half of 2014, the said free zone witnessed a 23 per cent increase in the overall occupancy rate of offices. In addition, the number of new company registrations rose by 14 per cent, with multinational companies accounting for 27 per cent and also occupying 15 per cent of the total new leased office spaces.
DAFZA was established in 1996 to enable different companies, especially in the logistics and manufacturing sector, to draw advantage from its strategic location close to the airport and free zone status. It is also located close to Port Rashid and well-connected with traditional business centers of Dubai such as Deira and Bur Dubai by land commute.
Currently, companies registered in DAFZA can be a free zone establishment (FZE) or a branch office of an existing company originally based abroad. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), DAFZA has several office space rental packages ranging from 50 square meters of office space to just a solitary office desk and cupboard.
There are now multinational companies in the free zone area that are related to various industries including electronics and electrical supplies, engineering and building materials, aerospace and aviation, logistics and freight, food and beverages and pharmaceuticals.
The Spanish Footballers' Association, La Liga, has opened an office in DAFZA to market and promote various Spanish football teams in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
