The trend of outdoor shopping centers

Shopping in Dubai has always been associated with chic, air-conditioned malls or crowded markets like those in Bur Dubai, Deira and New Dubai.

However, the advent of The Walk changed the face of shopping in Dubai. Shopping was suddenly taken out of the anonymity of the malls and the grime of street markets and placed in a zone which is chic and yet has the vibrancy of a street market. Inspired by the promenades and outdoor cafés of Europe, outdoor shopping zones like The Walk, Citywalk and Wasl Square opposite Safa Park are adding charm and a certain amount of quaintness to shopping in bustling Dubai.

The Walk, which has gained iconic status, is a vibrant venue for shopping and dining, and one can happily cross the road for a day at the beach or lounge in luxury in one of the many five-star hotels lining it. The Wasl Square outlets also benefit from the presence of Safa Park. One can sit out and enjoy coffee or a meal while lazily watching the traffic and the activities in the park across the road.

Citywalk, which plays host to an eclectic mix of 52 retail and dining outlets, is the latest addition to Dubai’s burgeoning outdoor shopping scene. Mini fountains and water features dot its central courtyard. There is also a children’s play area with an arena-like seating around it that can double up as a venue for an intimate concert or even weekly markets and exhibitions.

The children’s play area is visible from almost all the dining outlets allowing parents to have some quiet ‘me’ time whilst knowing that their children are playing safely nearby. Citywalk is a concept that is all set to change the way people view shopping, making it more of a relaxed and enjoyable outing.

Handy Hints:

• Aside from dining outlets, Wasl Square also has retail shops

• The Walk has gained an iconic status as a vibrant shopping venue

• Citywalk features plenty of mini fountains and water features
