The avenue of Salam Street, renamed Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, is framed by a stunning selection of towers whose glass panes gleam in the bright sunny days.
The area is popular among residents and businesses alike because it is well-connected to the other main commercial suburbs of Abu Dhabi such as Khalidiya and Muroor. It is also easy to travel off island from this location.
Salam Street is one of the epicenters of commercial activity in Abu Dhabi. The Al Bahar Towers are quite a vision in the area, it is tough to miss them. The towers are known for their sustainable design, with moving elements on the surface that expand and contract as per the time of day and severity of sunlight. Facilities in the eco-friendly buildings include restaurants, cafes, an auditorium for 150 people, a multi-use conference hall, sky gardens and landscaped pedestrian pathways with palm reserve and water features.
Twofour54 is located in the same area, on the Eastern Ring Road. It aims to nurture a collaborative and stimulating venue to support creative pursuits, and acts as an instant mobilizing agent for businesses, whether startups or branch offices, to facilitate their operation.
Many prominent banks such as the National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Union National Bank, restaurants offering cuisines ranging from Continental to Asian, and other commercial businesses are situated on Salam St. Hotels and hotel apartments also abound in the area.
The area underwent a major facelift when the government constructed the longest tunnel in the Middle East in the area to reduce traffic congestion. The Shaikh Zayed Street and Tunnel, formerly called Salam Street Tunnel, has several lanes to accommodate a huge number of motorists and is equipped with the latest traffic control technology. It was awarded the Infrastructure Project of the Year at the Construction Week Awards held last year.
