There has been a big demand among entrepreneurs to operate from commercial zones located near the airports, thanks to their free zone status and logistical advantage.
Dubai World Central (DWC), which houses the Al Maktoum International Airport, is witnessing a steady rise in demand for office space. The Business Park located in DWC has already leased 200,000 square meters of office space in the first six months of the year. Enthused by the demand, new office space is made available catering to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Around 1,000 companies are registered at the Business Park which offers free zone facilities. The Business Park is located close to the site of the World Expo 2020 which is another key reason for its popularity.
The Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) is also on a steady growth curve. This free zone, located close to the Dubai International Airport, welcomed 196 new tenants last year. Currently, around 1,600 companies operate from here. Its increasing popularity meant the revenues jumped by 42% in 2013. There are varied industries which are operating from DAFZA ranging from aerospace to aviation, electronics to engineering. The Spanish football authorities opened a new office in DAFZA to promote Spanish football teams in the region.
The Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF-Zone) is set to add a new logistics park within its existing premises. The park, with an initial area of 100,000 square meters, will cater to the aviation industry. SAIF-Zone currently has 6,700 companies, and 800 new ones were registered in the first six months of the year.
The Abu Dhabi Airport Business City, with its Business Park, Logistics Park and Business Centre, is also trying to attract companies looking to enjoy free zone facilities and proximity to the airport.
