Drydocks World is part of Dubai World, a government-owned investment company with operations in fields as varied as maritime, finance and investment services, construction, urban development, transport and logistics.
The multi-awarded facility is located in Al Mina in Jumeirah 1 and goes by the description of “The World’s Shipyard.” Upon closer scrutiny, this label is not far off the mark.
Drydocks World is the largest shipyard in the Middle East, and one of the largest and the most sophisticated in the world. It offers a wide range of facilities for ultra large crude carriers (ULCC), very large crude carriers (VLCC), and medium and small-sized vessels. Services include ship repair and conversions, logistics and materials management, new buildings, rig building and refurbishment, maintenance and development, plant and equipment leasing, engineering, facilities maintenance, offshore fabrication and specialized liquefied natural gas (LNG) handling facilities.
For more than three decades, DW has been servicing ships en route to and from the major shipping ports of the world, carrying cargo and essential supplies.
Due to its focus on continuous improvement and excellence, DW has been the recipient of multiple awards within its three decades of operations, the most recent of which is the Sword of Honour and the Five Star Rating 2014 from the British Safety Council. It also won the Best Oil and Gas Project award at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference for constructing a 10,000-ton subsea facility for the storage of oil, the largest in the world. Other awards include the Shipyard Facility of the Year and the Innovation Awards at the Maritime Standards Awards, and the World Business Leader Certificate 2014 at the World Confederation of Business awards.
The facility recently reached another milestone of having an impressive eight rigs berthed at one time.
